How to Remove Exterior Wall Paint?

The exterior paint of my house was flaking, and certain areas of the paint on the walls had already fallen off. I decided to remove all of it, but I didn’t know how to remove exterior wall paint. I had an idea that I could use sandpaper but I wanted to confirm if this could damage the walls. I had a word with my uncle who is a building contractor.  He said I could go for a sandpaper attachment method. He also mentioned another technique which I am sharing with you below.

How to Remove Paint from Exterior Wall?

Some of the methods mentioned by my uncle have already been covered in the previous answers, so I would add the methods that are not mentioned here. 

Sandpaper Attachment

My uncle said that sandpaper attachment converts the paint into fine dust. He told me that I should wear a mask to ensure that dust doesn’t get inhaled. 

Wire Wheel Attachment

Another method suggested was the wire wheel. He said this is helpful in removing thick layers of paint with ease. He suggested that I should not apply much pressure or the underlying surface might get damaged. 

Electric Heat Gun

He said I could also use an electric heat gun. This will help melt away old paint from any surface easily. 

And that’s all he told me about how to remove paint from outside wall. From all of the methods mentioned by my uncle, I decided to use a Putty Knife to remove paint from my walls. Hope this helps.

These are ideal for siding on homes with a lot of flaking or peeling paint. It is advised you to visit your neighbourhood hardware store & go through the many styles available and select the one that best fits your demands and hand size.

A pull scraper has interchangeable blades and is more ergonomic.

Wire Brush:

The best way to remove small paint particles and wood debris is to use a wire hand brush alongside with a paint scraper.
