Before I tell you how to remove dark stain from fence, you must know about the things that you will need to remove.

  • Stain-remover

  • 2 brushes

  • Plastic bucket

  • Rubber gloves

  • Safety glasses

  • A pressure washer

  • Water supply

  • Wood stain

  • A palm sander, and

  • A broom with compressed air

How to remove fence stain?

  1. First, the old stain needs to be removed, which is done using a wood stain stripper. Due to the greater chemical nature of the stripper, it is advisable to protect any houseplants or areas that you do not want the stripper to come into contact with.

  2. Spread it on the area with a brush. Keep the surface moist with the stripper at all times, and you can proceed to scrape the area every few minutes. Avoid working in the direct sun where the stripper can dry. Before it needs to be removed, the stripper just needs to be left on the area for around 30 minutes.

  3. Remove the old paint and stripper by running a steam cleaner on the broadest can setting.

  4. Given that some of the colours had faded off, some of the wood was left exposed, and there may be signs of greying. A wood wash is applied to the problem.

  5. A typical weed spray was used to apply the wood bleach. When the soak-in period is through, wash the panel off with a power washer using the largest fan setting.

  6. Unfortunately, power washing will lift the wood fibres before that stain, necessitating sanding. Use a palm sander and 80 grit sandpaper to eliminate these wood fibres and smooth the surface.

  7. For a tint, this depends on your preference. It is recommended to use a higher-quality stain because it will likely be more durable and have a longer shelf life.

  8. More stain is typically needed in this stage because the initial coat will sink into the wood. Start to put the coat after letting the first coat dry for about an hour. Instead, this second layer serves as a sealer to create a barrier that is impermeable to water.

  9. Even though the frames were pressure coated, they do appear slightly darker, but overall, with correct preparation and despite the different types of wood, you can see how nicely the panel components fit.

This is the method I follow and suggest on
