My son, who is 3 years old, loves to draw, and the whole house is basically his drawing board. He quite often draws on the sofa with a pen or whatever is in his hands, and I have to clean up after him. Over time, I have learned how to remove ink stain from sofa. There are quite a few methods following which ink stains can be removed from a sofa. The one that I use the most is rubbing alcohol.

How to Remove Ink from Sofa?

I have added the steps for this method below, but before you use this, I suggest you test it in a small, hidden area of the sofa. Rubbing alcohol can remove colours from sofa fabrics.

  • Start the process by applying a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth. It would be better if it's a white cloth.

  • Now, blot the stain with the cloth. Be gentle, or you could push the stain deeper into the sofa fabric. Add more alcohol if necessary.

  • Continue this process until the stain disappears.

  • After that, clean the area properly and use a towel to dry the area.

And that’s how do I remove ink from leather sofa. You can try this method, and if it doesn't help, then try the methods provided by the others.

  • Dishwashing Detergent Method

Minor stains should be removed with detergent alone. Here's how you go about it.

1st step

Combine two cups of warm water with one spoonful of liquid dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon of white vinegar.

2nd Step

Apply the detergent solution to a cloth and dab at the stain, wiping it with a separate dry cloth until the stain is gone

3rd step

Stay off the couch until it's dry and flush with clear water

  • The Alcohol Rubbing Method

If the stain is larger or proving difficult to remove with just detergent, try this procedure.

1st step

Important: Before continuing, test the rubbing alcohol on a small, hidden part of your couch. Some lounge materials can be discoloured by rubbing alcohol

2nd Step

Using one of the clean white cloths, apply a little amount of rubbing alcohol

Blot the stain lightly with the cloth, being careful not to rub or press too hard, as this may spread the stain or cause it to penetrate further into the sofa fibres. It's possible that you'll need to add extra alcohol as you go. Because alcohol is able to break down the oil in permanent markers, it works well

4th step

Continue to blot until the stain is gone. After properly cleaning and rinsing the area, dry it with a towel

  • The Application of Nail Polish

If the rubbing alcohol method doesn't work, try the same procedure with non-acetone clear nail paint instead. Just make sure to test it out on a hidden part of your sofa first.
