I have an easy solution for how to remove limescale from bathroom tiles. Vinegar, baking soda and lemon juice are effective, but I feel they damage the tiles; hence, I avoid using them. Instead, I use white toothpaste to clean the tiles, which is very effective. You just need to spread the white toothpaste over the stained area, let it sit for 10 minutes, scrub it with a soft toothbrush and rinse it with warm water.

How to Get Rid of Limescale on Bathroom Tiles?

Nowadays, limescale removal solutions are available in the market so you can try using them as per their instructions. I fear they will damage the tiles; hence, I usually use this homely trick of using toothpaste. Here is how to clean limescale from bathroom tiles at home with white toothpaste:

  • Apply a layer of regular white toothpaste over the limescale-affected tiles and let it sit for about 10 minutes so it can penetrate the limescale.

  • After letting it sit, use a soft brush or a cloth to scrub in circular motions over the limescale spots. This will break down the mineral deposits without damaging the tile surface and help you clean the surface effectively

  • Rinse thoroughly with warm water to remove any leftover toothpaste residue and then wipe the tiles with a microfiber cloth to dry them completely

This is my suggestion on how to clean limescale off bathroom tiles and I hope you will be happy with the outcome.

Market-bought chemicals are used to damage the tiles and make the surfaces rough. I therefore decided to learn how to get rid of limescale on bathroom tiles using homely items. However, squeezing hundreds of lemons was not possible to clean my entire bathroom so let me share what items I used than these.

How to Clean Limescale Off Bathroom Tiles?

You can use lemon juice and soda to remove the limescale on tiles but if you have an extensive area to clean, here are some more tips:

  • Citric Acid:

Citric acid, commonly found in powdered form, can be dissolved in water and applied to the limescale. Make sure you allow it to sit for some time before scrubbing and rinsing. Citric acid is effective in dissolving limescale without the smell of vinegar. Usually, we use this for basin cleaning as well.

  • Steam Cleaning:

If you have access to a steam cleaner, it can effectively loosen and remove limescale from bathroom tiles without using any chemicals.

  • Rubbing Alcohol:

You can also apply rubbing alcohol to the affected areas and let it sit for a few minutes. Then scrub the tiles with a brush or sponge and rinse thoroughly.

Limescale on bathroom tiles can be unsightly and stubborn to remove. Last year during Diwali, I followed a few tips to remove limescale from tiles.

How to Remove Limescale from Tiles?

  • Create a vinegar solution:

Combine white vinegar and water in an equal amount in a spray bottle. If you want a citrus aroma, you can also use lemon juice.

  • Spray the Tiles:

The limescale-affected regions of the tiles should be liberally sprayed with the vinegar solution. The tiles should be moist but not dripping.

  • Let it Sit:

Allow the mixture to settle for 15 to 20 minutes. As a result, the acid has more time to dissolve the limescale.

  • Scrub:

Lightly scrub the tiles with a soft cloth or sponge. Use a plastic scraper for particularly difficult deposits, but take care not to damage the tiles.

  • Rinse thoroughly:

After the limescale has been removed, thoroughly rinse the tiles in clean water to remove any residual vinegar odour.

  • Dry the Tiles:

To stop new limescale buildup due to water droplets, dry the tiles with a clean, dry cloth.

  • Measures to Prevent Future Limescale Formation:

To prevent severe limescale bathroom buildup, clean the tiles frequently and use a squeegee after showers to decrease future limescale formation.

Using this technique, limescale on floor tiles can be removed successfully without the use of harsh chemicals, leaving your tiles clean and in excellent condition.

I have a bathroom with black tiles. I take a shower every day and that's how my tiles had limescale on them over the years. The mineral concentration of the water I use is very high, so the limescale marks were increasing every day and it started bothering me. I used soaps and also bought other limescale removers from the market to get rid of the timescales. But I got no results. I was discussing this with my neighbor Chanda, and she told me how to remove limescale from bathroom tiles with natural ingredients.

How to clean limescale from bathroom tiles?

My friend Chanda recommended some home ingredients to descale the bathroom tiles.

1. Lemon Juice

You can easily find a lemon in your house to descale your bathroom tiles. I applied a thick layer of lemon on the floor since my floor also had a thick layer of limescale. I kept it for 10 minutes and voila! the limescale marks were gone. You can use this method although I would recommend not to keep the lemon juice on the tiles for too long as it will end up affecting your tiles.

2. Vinegar

If you have vinegar in your house, you can also apply it to the tiles to remove the limescale. Just like the lemon juice, apply the vinegar for 10 minutes and rinse it off.

3. Baking Soda

Ever thought that baking soda can also remove limescale? Well, the answer is yes! I have used this method before and the results were remarkable. I made a paste with water and baking soda to apply to the tiles affected by the limescale. The ratio of baking soda and water was 1:3. I let it dry and then I scrubbed it off with a small brush.

I hope my answer on how to remove limescale from bathroom tiles was helpful.
