Hi,

We Indians are big fans of mustard. We use mustard in almost every dish, so it is obvious that we stain our clothes and carpets with mustard quite often. I have two little kids, and in my house we generally sit on the carpet to have our meals. And kids spill most of their meal. So it is very important for almost every Indian household to know how to remove mustard stains from carpet.

How to clean mustard stain?

  1. The last thing you want to do when you uncover a mustard stain is scrub it vigorously. This will cause the mustard to seep even deeper into the carpet fibres. Instead, carefully wipe the discoloration with a clean cloth to remove as much mustard as possible.

  2. Using a mix of 2 cups warm water and 1 part dishwashing detergent, dab the soiled area of the carpet.

  3. Combine a small amount of dishwashing soap and hydrogen peroxide in a separate bowl. This is being done in order to make a paste (1 part hydrogen peroxide, 3 parts detergent).

  4. Apply the paste to the afflicted area of the carpet with a spatula or spreading instrument.

  5. If you're going to use a steam iron, make sure it's on the lowest setting. Without actually touching the carpet, line up the iron directly over the soiled area and keep it in place. To loosen the stain, leave it there for 30 seconds.

  6. After that, soak a clean cloth in cold water. To remove any leftover mustard residue, continue wiping the carpet fibres.

  7. Using a dry, clean cloth, pat the area dry until the mustard stain is no longer visible.

These are a few steps I follow and suggest when someone asks me how to clean mustard stain. I hope these help you too.
