I had a pretty big oil spill in my kitchen a few days ago, and I really needed to figure out how to clean oil on floor quickly. It was a mess, and leaving it there was just making the floor sticky and dangerous. Luckily, my mother came and cleaned the oil from the floor using baking soda. She took care of it easily. I saw the process she performed for cleaning my kitchen, so sharing the same below.

How to Remove Oil from Wood Floor?

  • First, she grabbed some regular paper towels to blot up as much of the oil as possible.

  • She didn’t rub it, just gently pressed down to soak up the oil.

  • After that, she sprinkled some baking soda on the spot. The baking soda worked to absorb any remaining oil on the floor.

  • She left it there for a few minutes, and I could already see it starting to lift the oil.

  • Finally, she swept up the baking soda.

To make sure everything was completely clean, she used a mix of dish soap and warm water to mop up the rest of the area. The soap helped break down the leftover grease. After drying the floor, it looked as good as new, and there was no slippery residue. I hope you understand how to remove oil from floor without much hassle.

Hello Samiksha, I saw you wanted to know how to clean oil on the floor and I am here to help you with the process. I spilt oil on my floor a while back and used some simple techniques to clean it.

How to Get Rid of Oil on the Floor?

I think it would be helpful if I shared the cleaning process for different floor types here.

  1. Wooden Floor: For a wooden floor, you can use granular powders or cornstarch. Whatever you’ve chosen, spread it evenly over the entire area where the oil has spilt. Let it sit for at least one hour. Then, use a vacuum cleaner or a broom to remove it from the floor. Take a damp cloth and clean the floor, followed by a dry rag.

  2. Concrete Floor: You can again use a granular powder like on a wooden floor to soak the oil first. Follow the process till the end. Then, use powdered laundry detergent mixed with water to dissolve the oil. Rinse the surface with warm water and repeat the steps if you feel like it.

This is how to remove oil from the floor. I hope you find the steps helpful.

Hi,

As explained by Animesh, using washing soda is a great way to remove oil spills from the floor but there is another ingredient that you can use. Cornstarch is another way if you are trying to learn how to get rid of oil on floor.

I wasn’t aware of this method but my mother told me about it when I was trying to clean some oil from the floor. She told me that this can remove oil stains as well.

How To Remove Oil Stain From Floor?

Here is the step-by-step process she told me about.

  • First of all, get the cornstarch and sprinkle it generously over the area where you want to get rid of oil or oil stains.

  • Following that, give the cornstarch sometime to absorb the oil and become a powdery mixture.

  • Now, if you are cleaning oil stains, a little bit of scrubbing is necessary or else use a cloth to wipe off the mixture.

  • Finally, use a damp cloth to wipe off the area to clean it properly.

She told me that, when it comes to how to clean oily floors, I can also use a mixture of salt and baking soda in the same way. I hope now you are aware of another method of how to get rid of oil on floors.

Last year my father decided to turn our store room into a guest room. Since the store room was used for keeping pantry material, it had oil stains everywhere. My mom knew how to clean oil on floor which was minor in nature. But for the major stains in the store room, we had to book professionals.

We hired the cleaners of NoBroker and they did a fantastic job. I could not recognise our store room after it was cleaned. It was as good as new.

How to Remove Oil Stains From floor?

I will share with you the steps that the NoBroker team followed to clean the oil stains from floor.

  • Absorbing Oil with Baking Soda or Cornstarch:

There were many stubborn oil stains on the floor. So, they applied a generous amount of baking soda or cornstarch to the affected area. Then they allowed it to sit for 15-30 minutes to absorb the oil.

  • Creating Dishwashing Solution:

Then they mix a few drops of dishwashing liquid with warm water in a container. Then they used a clean cloth to dip into the solution and wring it out well.

  • Cleaning the Stain:

Then they gently applied the dishwashing solution to the oil stain, working from the outside edges towards the center. I noticed that they used a soft-bristled brush for stubborn stains.

  • Rinsing and Drying:

After that they rinsed the area with clean water and dried it thoroughly with a clean cloth.

If you are cleaning your oil stained floor yourself, and you see that the floor is not completely clean, you can repeat the above mentioned procedure. The NoBroker team followed the procedure twice for my store room.

They also suggested that whenever there is an oil spill, we immediately blot fresh oil spills with a clean, absorbent cloth to prevent them from spreading further.

Hi Buddy,

Oil and water, without a doubt, do not mix. As a result, if an oil spill occurs on the floor, you will only be able to effectively clean up the problem if you know how to clean oil from floor. Working professionals and busy homemakers may not have time to sweep and clean the floor on a daily basis.

Keep your kitchen spick and span by removing all the oil marks with the help of NoBroker kitchen cleaning service.

If you have set-in grease on your otherwise attractive tile flooring due to a lack of upkeep, you can clean it using a procedure that protects its beauty and durability.

How to remove oil from floor
  • Obtain a Washing Soda Box

Make sure the product label on the packaging says "washing soda" and not "baking soda." Both are alkali cleansers capable of dissolving grease, but experts believe washing soda to be the best kitchen floor cleaner for set-in stains

  • Take the necessary precautions to ensure your safety

Because washing soda is highly hazardous, wear protective gloves and eyewear. In the kitchen or bathroom, turn on the ventilation fans and open the windows

  • Formulate Your Cleaning Method

Fill a mop bucket with 1 gallon of warm water. After that, measure up 1/2 cup of washing soda and place it in the bucket. Using a spatula, gently swirl the solution in the bucket

  • Examine a Small Area First

Dip the washcloth's end into the washing soda solution. Wipe a tiny, inconspicuous area of the tile flooring with the solution to ensure the surface is not faded or abraded. As part of the test, there is no need to apply grease or oil to the inconspicuous region. Wipe the tile floor in the corner of the kitchen pantry or behind the commode in the bathroom, for example.

Allow the washing soda solution to dry for five minutes. Wipe up the washing soda solution with another damp cloth. Proceed with removing the set-in grease stains if there are no negative side effects. If the test caused harm to the surface, don't continue it

  • Select a Cleaning Brush

Place a deck brush or handheld brush in the bucket to absorb part of the washing soda solution and remove grease from the kitchen tiles. Use a deck brush with a handle to scrub and walk at the same time if you need to clean a large area of set-in grease stains, such as the entire kitchen floor. A portable brush is ideal for spot cleaning while on your knees

  • Grease Stains Must Be Removed

Instead of a front-to-back or side-to-side motion, scrub the grease stains on the tile in a circular manner. This allows the brush's bristles to make more contact with the occasionally sticky or hardened oil spots on the tile, resulting in friction and heat. Use a toothbrush to get between the grout lines. The washing soda solution is driven straight into the grease spot by the buffing action

  • Take a 5-minute break

Allow the washing soda solution to break down the grease stains for five minutes. Pour the washing soda solution out of the bucket and down the drain in the meantime. Fill the bucket with warm water after rinsing it, but don't add any washing soda

  • Sweep and Mop the Floor

Soak a mop in the bucket and then wring it out. Remove the dissolved grease stains on the tile floor by mopping off the areas where you applied the washing soda solution

I would like to conclude my answer about how to clean oil from floor. I hope this helps:)
