The best solution for how to get rid of oil stains on wall is to use white vinegar. Since others have already mentioned it, let me share with you another hack. You can use talcum powder to get rid of the oil stains on your wall. You can sprinkle a bit of talcum powder on the stained area, let it sit for a few hours and then brush it or wipe it off with a clean cloth.

How to Remove Oil Stains from Painted Walls using Talcum Powder?

So here is the step-by-step process on how to clean oil stains from painted wall using talcum powder that I opt for:

  • First, I grab a dry cloth and gently blot the oil-stained area carefully so that it does not spread further.

  • Then I sprinkle the talcum powder all over the stain and make sure it completely covers the oily spot.

  • I let the powder sit for a few hours to fully absorb the oil but if you have more time, let it sit for around 8 hours

  • After the wait, I use a soft brush to gently sweep away the powder and get rid of the stain easily

  • For stubborn stains, I repeat the process, and after a couple of rounds, the wall looks as good as new.

Using vinegar, baking soda or other cleaning solutions, create a white patch on the walls; hence, I suggest you implement this talcum powder trick.

Gather Supplies:
  • Mild dish soap or a degreasing cleaner

  • Warm water

  • Clean, soft cloths or sponges

  • A bucket

  • Baking soda (optional)

  • White vinegar (optional)

Test the Area:
  • Before proceeding, test the cleaning solution on a small, inconspicuous area to ensure it doesn't harm the paint.

Prepare a Cleaning Solution:
  • Mix a few drops of mild dish soap or a degreasing cleaner with warm water in a bucket. You can also add a small amount of white vinegar or baking soda for extra cleaning power.

Now let me answer how to get oil off painted wall. This is what you need to do:

Apply the Solution:
  • Dip a clean cloth or sponge into the solution, wring it out to remove excess moisture, and gently dab the oil stain.

  • Avoid rubbing the stain, as it can spread the oil. Instead, blot the stain gently, working from the outside towards the center to prevent spreading.

Rinse and Repeat:

You can also buy a market-bought product, but that might ruin the wall completely, which is why I avoided it.
