There are two solutions for how to remove scratches from mirror. One is with nail polish and the other is by using metal polish. They have always been effective; hence, you can try any of these. All you have to do is clean the mirror with a dry cloth first, apply the cleaning solution, leave it for an hour and finally wipe it gently with a soft, clean cloth. If you want, you can read the processes in detail next.

How Do You Remove Scratches From A Mirror?

There are two easy methods on how to get rid of scratch on mirror and they are:

Nail Polish Method

  • First, I start by wiping down the scratch with a soft cloth to remove any dust.

  • Next, I apply clear nail polish directly onto the scratch, making sure to cover it fully. It looks a bit messy at first, but eventually, it smooths out.

  • I then let the nail polish dry for an hour and gave it time to settle into the scratch and harden properly.

  • I then use a non-acetone nail polish remover and gently wipe the area around the scratch, leaving the polish inside the scratch untouched.

  • Finally, I buff the area lightly with a soft cloth, making the mirror surface look smoother and less scratched.

Metal Polish Method

  • I always start by cleaning the mirror, focussing on the scratched area, to make sure no dust interferes.

  • I apply a small amount of metal polish to a soft cloth and rub it over the scratch using circular motions.

  • As I gently buff the area, I notice the polish starts to smooth out the scratch, reducing its visibility.

  • After buffing, I wipe away any excess polish from the mirror with a clean cloth.

  • I give the mirror a final polish, leaving it shiny and the scratch much less noticeable

So these are the two effective ways on how to remove scratches from mirror that I myself implement. I can assure you that you will be happy with the result so do try at least one of them.

Hey Indar. I can tell you how do you remove scratches from mirrors. I did some research online and found that the best ways to get your mirror back to its original shine are to use metal polish, toothpaste, or baking soda. Read on to get the detailed and easiest hacks.

How Do You Remove a Scratch from a Mirror?

Mirrors are expensive fixtures in our house interior that are prone to scratches over time. I have listed the most effective and straightforward techniques for removing scratches from a mirror here.

  • Metal Polish

In this method, you can begin cleaning your mirror using glass cleaner and a cloth. Next, using a clean cloth, apply metal polishing paste and buff the scratch in a circular motion.

  • Toothpaste

I discovered that toothpaste can work as a mild abrasive to gently wipe out the scratches. You just need to simply dab the area that has been scratched with a little toothpaste on a soft, lint-free cloth and rub it circularly.

To get a smoother surface, rinse the mirror with water and dry it with a fresh cloth. This is best hack if you want to know how to fix scratch on back of mirror.

  • Baking Soda

To use this procedure, you must first make a paste by combining equal parts baking soda and water. Using a soft clean cloth, apply the paste to the region that has been scratched. After gently rubbing the paste over the scratches in a circular motion, wash the mirror with water and pat dry with a fresh cloth.

Alternatively, you can successfully remove scratches from a mirror and enjoy a clear reflection once again by using clear nail polish or vinegar/mustard paste. I hope this clarifies how to get scratches out of a mirror.

Process: How to Remove Scratches from Mirror
  • Clean the scratched part of the mirror using a cloth and apply a layer of non-gel toothpaste. I recommend you to go for a brand with a higher amount of abrasive (like baking soda varieties) as they work the best. The gentle abrasives rated for teeth are safe enough to even out the surface without damaging it.

  • Use a microfiber cloth to buff toothpaste in a circular motion into the scratch for a couple of minutes. After smoothing out the area, rinse the excess off with water and clean the area using a new microfiber cloth. Repeat the process until the scratch has been buffed away.

  • Mix water and distilled white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio in a bowl. Use it as a glass cleaner and wipe the scratched area with a clean microfiber cloth for a perfect finish. Avoid plush cloth towels or paper to ensure a lint-free surface.

  • If the surface scratches are not superficial or have a protective glaze that’s lifting, you should hire a professional to get it repaired. They can glaze, glue, or re-cut glass for a complete restoration.
