Hello Rama. I know how to remove sewer smell from bathroom. A few days ago, my kid shared that the bathroom was smelling bad. So, I checked the washroom to find the source of the smell. I saw that the seal on the toilet was broken, which was causing the bad odour. So, I applied caulk over the region. There are a total of 2 methods, which I am sharing below.

Here are some ways through which you can remove the sewer smell:

Smell from the P-trap

  1. One way to remove the sewer smell from your kitchen is to run water through your sink or drain.

  2. Let the water flow to allow the P-trap to properly fill up with water.

  3. Doing so will block the smell from the bathroom.

Smell Due to Broken/Missing Seal

  1. When there is no seal or the seal is broken, bacteria start growing, which can cause this bad odour.

  2. You can apply a bead or a line of caulk around the exposed area.

  3. The smell will go away after that.

I believe you're now aware of how to get rid of sewage smell in bathroom. Have a good day.

  • Fixing Leaks

: He told me that, leaks are one of the major reasons for sewer-like smell in the bathroom. Tightening the bolts can solve this problem rather easily.

  • Removing Clogs

: He also told me about removing clogs. For that, he suggested pouring hot water down the drain first, then baking soda, then vinegar, and then more hot water after letting the mixture sit in the drain for 10-15 minutes.

  • Removing and Replacing Toilet

: For that, he told me to empty the toilet, remove the old wax seal, then replace the toilet flange bolts. After that, he asked me to pull the toilet out of the way, attach the wax ring, then adjust the toilet, and then bolt it to the floor.

  • Servicing Water Heaters

: He also said that sacrificial anode rods are a type of protective element found in tank water heaters. These corroding rods combine with the sulfates in the water to produce a sewer-like smell.
