I have a huge collection of antique products. Some I have bought and some I have been gifted. A lot of these antique products are made of iron. Earlier I used to frequently suffer with the problem of black stains on iron boxes and other antiques. But then I did some research and trial and error to find out how to remove black stains from iron box. Let me tell you how you do it too.

How to clean iron box black marks?

You can follow these steps to remove any kind of black stain from an iron box.

  1. Clean the iron plate: Clean the iron plate of the box using a damp cloth. You can also scrub the surface using a sand paper. This will remove any kind of roughness and dirt from the surface and make it smooth.

  2. Make a paste of baking soda and water: Then mix some baking soda and water in a bowl and make a thick paste out of it.

  3. Apply the paste to the stains: Now apply this paste on the iron surface using a sponge. Make sure that you properly cover the stained part.

  4. Let the paste sit for 30 minutes: Leave the paste on the surface for at least 30 minutes. This will help the soda work its magic.

  5. Scrub the stains: Now use a damp cloth and scrub off the stains. With the help of baking soda, all of the stains would come off very easily.

  6. Wipe the iron plate clean: Then you can wipe the iron box with a clean cloth and leave it to dry.

I hope this helps you understand how to remove black marks on iron box.

My nani ji passed away in 2014 peacefully in her sleep. I love her dearly and I just wanted to keep a few of her belongings with me as her memories. There was an iron box which she used to keep digestive biscuits. It was her favorite box and if we got even one biscuit from that box, we felt so special. I kept that iron box with me but over the years, it has got some stains on it. So I just wanted to know how to remove stains from iron box. Thankfully, my mother saw my nani cleaning it often so she shared a few tips. I can share them with you too.

How to remove stain from iron box?
  • Remove the dust off the iron box

  • Identify the spots, I saw that there were black spots so I specifically asked mom to tell me how to remove black stain from iron box.

  • Once you have identified the stains, take a bowl and mix 3 parts baking soda, 1 part water and form a paste.

  • Apply the paste on the box and leave it on for 30 minutes. Now take a wet towel and wipe off the paste. The stains on your iron box must come off.

  • If that doesn’t work then take a cotton pad and dip it in vinegar. Gently scrub and rub away the black stains or burn stains.

  • You can also try out nail paint remover, it does help in some cases.

I hope these solutions come in handy.
