I always struggled with cleaning our toilet because of hard and stubborn stains. Then, recently I came across a video on Instagram on how to clean toilet stains and realised I was using outdated methods to clean the toilet. I learned some unique ways to clean the rigid stains on the toilet. I am sharing some methods with you below.

How Do I Clean a Stained Toilet?

There are some easy methods I learned from the video that you can also follow.

White Vinegar and Baking Soda

Sprinkle some amount of baking soda around the toilet bowl. Then, spray some vinegar on it and leave it for some time. Use a toilet brush to scrub the toilet strenuously, focusing on the hard stains. This has always worked well for removing brown or yellow stains around the toilet.

Lemon Juice

Spray some lemon juice on the toilet bowl and leave it overnight. Then spray some more lemon juice and wait for another few minutes before scrubbing the bowl. Then, flush to rinse away the stains. This is a great way to remove the mineral deposits and clean your toilet.

Pumice Stone

You can use a pumice stone to scrub your toilet, but make sure you’re gentle with it as pumice is an abrasive material that can scratch your toilet surface. Keep the stone wet and softly scrub the bowl. This will work well if you first use one of the above-mentioned methods before scrubbing with pumice, as it will prevent possible scratches. This method is best to remove tough stains like rust or lime buildup.

These are the methods I have been using for a while and all of them work perfectly. I hope this gives you an idea on how do you clean a stained toilet.

How Often to Clean Toilet?

I am very concerned with our health so I clean the toilet thoroughly on weekends. My mother shared with me how to clean toilet stains and I follow her process every time. It is effective as well as easy. I use bleach for the cleaning process, unlike vinegar and soda but you can use whichever suits you. Let me share my cleaning process now.

How Do You Clean a Stained Toilet?

Cleaning toilets gets tougher if you leave them dirty for a long time. I would suggest you clean your toilet at least twice a month. Let me tell you how do I clean a stained toilet:

  • First, make sure you have rubber gloves, a toilet brush, bleach, and a scrub brush or sponge.

  • Once you grab these items, put on rubber gloves to protect your hands from bacteria and harsh chemicals.

  • Flush the toilet to wet the bowl's surface, making it easier for the cleaner to adhere.

  • Pour bleach directly into the toilet bowl, ensuring it coats the stained areas. Please be careful not to splash or spill bleach onto clothing or surfaces.

  • Let the bleach sit for about 10-15 minutes to break down stains and disinfect the bowl.

  • Scrub the bowl thoroughly with a toilet brush, focusing on areas with visible stains. Use firm pressure to remove tough stains.

  • If desired, you can also use a commercial toilet cleaner along with bleach for added cleaning power.

  • Flush the toilet to rinse away the bleach and loosen stains. Repeat the process if necessary until the stains are gone.

  • Wipe down the toilet seat, lid, and exterior with a disinfectant cleaner or antibacterial wipes.

So this is how to clean a toilet with stains. If you want, you can use commercial toilet cleaning solutions as well.
