Removing glass from a uPVC window may be necessary for maintenance or replacement purposes, such as fixing broken or damaged glass panes or upgrading to more energy-efficient windows. At least, that was our case. The glass on our UPVC windows was broken so we needed to know how to remove glass from uPVC window. So, I hired an expert to execute the task.

Let me share a brief idea on how to remove uPVC window since I watched the process during our uPVC window glasses’ replacement.

How to Remove the Glasses from uPVC Window?

Removing glass from a uPVC window can be done for repairs or replacement. Here's how you can do it:

Safety Precautions:

Wear safety gloves and goggles to protect against glass shards.

Locate Glazing Beads:

Identify the glazing beads around the perimeter of the window frame. They hold the glass in place.

Pry Glazing Beads:

Gently insert a putty knife or glazing tool under the glazing beads. Carefully pry them loose without damaging the frame.

Remove Glazing Beads:

Once all glazing beads are loosened, remove them from the frame.

Extract the Glass:

With the glazing beads removed, you can safely push or lift the glass out of the frame.

Dispose of Glass:

Dispose of the old glass safely and consider recycling if possible.

Clean the Frame:

Thoroughly clean the frame before installing new glass or making repairs.

This is the process followed to remove the glasses from UPVC windows. Also, if you are willing to remove the window as a whole, carefully pry off the interior trim or do moulding using a pry bar or putty knife. Then, remove any screws or fasteners securing the window frame to the wall and gently pull the frame out of the opening.
