Hi, We had vinyl flooring at our home a few years ago. We decided to change the flooring and lay a wooden one during the home renovation. So, I can help you learn how do you remove vinyl flooring.

How Do You Take Up Vinyl Flooring?

  1. First of all, clear the space above the vinyl flooring. The room should be empty for you to start removing the flooring.

  2. Before you remove the flooring, take off the baseboards. This has a short process of its own.

    1. Keep a wooden block some inches away above the baseboard.

    2. Place the wider side of the prybar where the trim and wall come in contact.

    3. Use a rubber mallet and tap the top of the pry bar to push it under the trim.

    4. Swiftly pry the trim away in little portions. Don’t exert too much force or the trim would break.

    5. Mark the back of the trim to install it later if you decide to reuse it.

  3. Start removing the flooring from the middle, as there is no glue there/

    1. Cut straight down the vinyl floor with a knife.

    2. Move 12 inches to the right or left and cut a narrow strip parallel to the first one.

    3. Roll the vinyl as you move down while cutting the strip.

    4. After you’re done, pull the strip of vinyl till the point the glue close to the perimeter acts against your force.

    5. Loosen the vinyl through a 5 in 1 scraper. If that doesn’t work, then take the help of a hammer or pry bar to break the hardened glue.

  4. Move on towards the glued perimeter. With the flat end of the pry bar, take off the glue beneath the vinyl. Then, use the scraper to remove the rest of the glue from the vinyl.

  5.  Remove the leftover glue from the subfloor using soap with warm water. This will soak the glue, and you’ll be able to remove it easily.

  6. Clean the flooring once you’re done, and make sure all the waste material is out of sight.

This is all for the process regarding how do you remove vinyl flooring. The job is a little hectic and not a one-person task at all.

So, I recommend getting some help. The best would be to go for professionals. I hope you now know how do I remove vinyl flooring.
