I hosted a party last week and as fun as it was, my house was a complete mess the next morning. The other day, I also found burnt marks on my new plywood flooring, which happened because of cigarette ashes. I had no clue how to repair burnt wood floor and one of my friends suggested using steel wool to scrub the surface. I also checked about it online and found I could fix the burn using steel wool. So, let me share those steps.

How to Fix Burnt Hardwood Floor?

As my friend suggested, I found steel wool is the best method to remove burned surfaces, especially with shallow burns like cigarette ashes. I used mineral oil along with it. Here are some steps you can take to fix the burns.

  1. You need to pour around 1/2 teaspoon of mineral oil on the steel wool in order to dampen the surface a bit before scrubbing the floor. You can also use lemon oil.

  2. Then, scrub the floor gently with the steel wool. I’d suggest being very patient and careful not to scratch the floor.

  3. Keep rubbing on the surface until there are no visible marks left on the floor. Once done, you can clean the floor with water and remove any excessive oil on the surface.

I used these steps and could fix my wooden flooring. I hope this will help you understand how to fix burnt wood floor. In case you have deeper burns which do not go away with steel wool, you might need to apply sandpaper or call a professional to help.
