How Will You Repair a Leaking Tap at Home?

Fixing a leaking tap might not be rocket science, but it's definitely not easy. You need to be quite patient while going through the process of fixing it. Here are some steps that you can follow to fix your leaking taps.

  • Start by turning off the water supply.

  • Next, close the sinkhole but put a cloth on it. This is done to ensure that the small parts are not lost during the repair.

  • Now, remove the tap handle using a screwdriver.

  • Following this, choose an adjustable wrench and use it to unscrew the valve in a counterclockwise direction.

  • Check the washers and the O-ring for any damages. If it's repairable, then wrap the plumber's tape around it or else replace it.

How to stop a leaking tap?

I don't like wasting money on plumbers to fix my leaky tap. The taps they fix get damaged within two weeks. It becomes extremely hard for me to call upon them all the time. First of all, my money gets wasted on hiring them. Secondly, I have to take a leave from my office just to fix the tap. One time the repair guy did not even show up. He told me he was busy working on other projects. I got irritated and tried to fix the tap by myself.  With the help of the internet in the digital era, I was able to fix leaking tap. I will discuss with you the easiest way to fix a leaky tap.

How to repair leaking tap at home?

To repair a leaky tap you will need:

  • 12mm washers

  • Spanner

  • O-ring

  • Jumper Valve

  • Reseating kit

  • Wrench

  • Multi- grips

  • A Screwdriver

  • Tap Lubricant

  • Cloth

All the materials are easily available in the market. Ask for these materials from the shopkeeper and he will give them to you.

You need to close your main tap before fixing your tap. I live in a flat so my main tap is in the bathroom which I turned off before working. Before fixing the leaky pipe, open it up to get rid of the excess water and seal the sink so that any parts won't fall down the drain.

Step-by-step process on how to fix water tap leaking

  1. With the spanner remove the tap cover from the handle.

  2. Open the screw to remove the handle.

  3. Undo the screw of the tap bonnet to remove the headgear. The jumper valve will fall out. You will also find a large body washer and an O-ring.

  4. Remove the old body washer, O-ring, and jumper valve and install the new ones. To seal, apply lubricant on the spindle.

Your tap will be fixed. I could easily fix my tap and I can proudly say that I am a plumber who is also a teacher!

I hope my answer on how to stop a leaking tap was helpful.
