LED bulbs are usually made to be changed rather than repaired, therefore LED bulb repair can be challenging and often not advised. Nevertheless, you can try the following actions to troubleshoot and perhaps resolve minor LED bulb issues.

What is the LED Light Bulb Repairing Process?

  • To prevent electrical shock, make sure the lightbulb is cold and unplugged.

  • Examine the connections on the lightbulb to make sure they are secure and clean. Flickering or failure may be caused by loose or corroded connections.

  • If you are skilled enough, you should try to open the lightbulb and look for any obvious damage or loose parts on the circuit board. To secure any loose connections, soldering might be necessary.

  • The electronic drivers in LED lights are subject to failure. If you are familiar with electronics, you can swap out the driver for a suitable one. Ensure that the voltage and current ratings of the new driver are the same.

  • For a replacement or repair LED light bulb, get in touch with the manufacturer if the LED bulb is still covered by warranty.

Remember that LED bulbs can be rather cheap, so trying to fix them might not always be safe or cost-effective, especially if you don't have the right knowledge and equipment. It's usually advisable to replace an inoperative LED bulb when in doubt.

If you want to know how to repair LED bulb, then you are at the right place. I have done engineering, so fixing damaged LED bulbs is a child’s play for me. An LED may burn for various reasons, such as voltage jumps, LED overheating, low component quality, etc. In most cases, it’s very easy to fix the LED light bulb. Check out the easy process:

  • Disassemble the bulb by taking off the dissipator. You will see a board with LEDs inside.

  • Now, if you find the black spot of some burning marks, then it is the case of burnt LEDs.

  • Some, LEDs may appear undamaged. In that case, you will have to use a multimeter to test and find a faulty LED. Most modern multimeters feature a diode test function for this purpose.

  • After finding the faulty diode, you will have to change it. It’s soldered to the board. Please refer to the soldering recommendations that are given in the diode technical specifications of the bulb.

  • If the design of the bulb allows, remove the board from the heatsink, desolder driver contacts, and begin replacing the LED. You may use a PCB holder to fix the board.

  • It is easy to remove the old LED with hot tweezers that heat up both outputs simultaneously.

  • Replace the old LED with a new LED of the same type. You can see the LED marking on the bulb PCB. Keep the polarity in mind during installation.

  • This is how to repair LED tube lights as well. You will have to follow a similar process to fix the damaged LED tube light.
