Hello there, I had an issue with my microwave a couple of months ago. I found out that the microwave no longer heating when I keep the food inside. After calling the technician, I got to know a few of the reasons and their solution to fix the problem. Some of the causes for this issue include a faulty megatron, non-closing door, defective high voltage diode and more. 

How to Repair a Microwave that is Not Heating?

Broken Magnetron

This is one of the most common issues behind the non-heating of any microwave. If the magnetron breaks down, you only have the option to replace it with a new one. 

• Remove the microwave plug to turn off the power supply.

• Unscrew the side compartment of the oven, so the magnetron is visible. 

• The magnetron is a small metallic box that is screwed into the oven. 

• You need to discharge the capacitor by touching the tip of a large screwdriver with the metal’s insulated handle.

• Carefully disconnect the magnetron’s wires and keep the screws with you.

• Place the new magnetron inside the oven and screw it to keep it in its position. Replace the magnetron with the one from the same model only.

• Lastly, you need to plug the magnetron in with the wiring and reattach the side panel of the oven. 

Defective High Voltage Diode

For a broken down diode, you’d have to replace it with a new one. This is the work of a professional and can be risky to do on your own. So, call a technician immediately.

So, these are the solutions to microwave problems not heating. Although I’ve shared the process to replace a magnetron, I insist you call a professional, as electrical work is never hazard-free. So, prioritise your safety and get the work done through an electrician only.

• Setting a timer: Microwaves with timers setting can contain food inside them. Please do not tell it to cook food for a long span of time while you remain outside of your home.

• Using the wrong setting: Do not set your microwave to the lowest power possible. The microwave at times does not work when you reheat a full frozen meal. Defrost the food and then start heating it.

• Put something that cannot be microwaved: Putting dry vegetables in the microwave won't have any effect. Put some water in a container to cook the dry vegetables. Also, don't put electronic gadgets, soaps, Orbis in the microwave. Those products will only damage it.
