I will share with you a step-by-step guide on how to repair stairs.
Remove the carpets. Take a flat bar to remove the treads.
Remove nails, leftover carpet pad and staples.
Screw the stringers by taking 4½ inches screws.
At the bottom of the tread apply subfloor adhesive. Apply the adhesive top and back of the tread as well.
Insert three 2 ½ inches screws through the tip of the tread into each stringer.
Insert 2 inches screw through the riser into the back of the tread situated in between the stringers.
Repeat the process for each tread.
