How to fix tub drain: Easy Guide

  1. To learn how to fix a leaking tub drain you need to remove the trip lever first. Give a tig and gently get it out of the drain. Take a screwdriver and remove the plate cover. Remove the trip lever now.

  2. If your bathtub is leaking, clean the linkage, ricker, arm and stopper. Use vinegar and a mild cleaning solution to brush the components of the drains. Rinse the components with warm water.

  3. Put the rocker and stopper back into the drain and close the stopper properly. Lubricate the parts and install them into the overflow drain. This is necessary to adjust the linkage.

  4. Loosen the lock nut and turn the rod in the anti-clockwise direction and then tighten the lock nut. Screw the rod in or out three or four times.
