I learnt how to repair water tap spindle from our plumber when we faced a similar issue and it's a tricky task to fix it. First, the plumber spotted the spindle issue right away and shut off the water supply to work safely. He then removed the tap’s handle, took out the worn spindle, and replaced it with a new one. After it was done, he turned the water back on, and the tap worked perfectly.

What is the Process for Water Tap Spindle Repair?

Repairing the tap spindle is a bit tough, so here is how our plumber fixed it:

Identifying the Problem

First, the plumber checked the tap and pinpointed the spindle as the cause of the constant dripping. He explained that a worn spindle often leads to poor sealing, causing leaks over time.

Replacing the Faulty Spindle

With the water supply off, he removed the tap handle and unscrewed the old spindle carefully.

Reassembly and Testing

After fitting a new spindle in, he tightened everything back up, reattached the handle, and turned the water back on.

This is the simple process you can follow to repair the tap spindle, but make sure you have the right tools.

How to Repair Wash Basin Tap?

The dreaded drip, drip, drip of a leaky faucet drives me bonkers. I know that with time faucets become loose and get leaky. But I make sure I repair the leaky faucets as soon as I can. I can tell you how to repair water tap spindle in a few easy steps. You can follow the steps I tell you ahead in the answer.

How to Repair Spindle of Tap?

Gather your toolbox, with screwdrivers, pliers, and perhaps a wrench. Then go on with the following steps.

  • Identify the leak

: Turn off the water supply and then unscrew the handle and expose the spindle. Inspect it for wear or damage.

  • Unscrew

: Then use the appropriate wrench or pliers to loosen the packing nut and unscrew the faulty spindle. Be gentle, but firm – unnecessary force might worsen the leak.

  • Replace the Spindle

: If it's just the washer, slide on a new one, and make sure it fits snugly. If you need to do a complete spindle replacement, you should carefully screw in the new one, ensuring proper alignment.

  • Rebuild

: Then replace the packing, tightening the nut just enough to prevent leaks, but not so much that it binds the spindle. Then screw back the handle and turn on the water.

If the water flows freely, congratulations, you have successfully repaired the water tap spindle. If not, repeat steps 3-6 with precision and perseverance.

But Wait, There's More! Leaky faucets can have different causes. If the tap drips from the spout even after replacing the spindle, it might be a different issue. So, I suggest you consult a professional plumber for more complex repairs.
