I had asked an interior designer friend of mine how to replace door frame. He said that it is a challenging task to do without any expertise. So, I opted for NoBroker’s carpentry service to get the door frame replaced at my home. Trust me, I saw them working and it is not a DIY project to do at home. But since I observed them so keenly, I can tell you how it is done.

How to Replace Wooden Door Frame?

The carpenters first gathered all the materials and tools and then started the door frame replacement process.

  • Remove the Existing Door:

They carefully removed the old door by unscrewing the hinges and lifting it off the frame.

  • Disconnect the Trim:

They then removed the existing trim around the door frame, including the casing, baseboard, and architrave.

  • Demolish the Old Frame:

Then, using a hammer and pry bar, carefully demolish the old door frame.

  • Clean and Prepare the Opening:

Once the old frame was removed, they cleaned the opening thoroughly to remove any debris or old nails.

  • Install the New Frame:

Then they placed the new door frame into the opening, ensuring it is level and plumb.

  • Install the Jambs, Header, and Trim:

After that they installed the new jambs (side pieces) of the frame, and the header (top piece) of the frame, and reinstalled the trim around the door frame.

  • Hang the Door:

Then they hung the new door onto the hinges, ensuring it opens and closes smoothly.

  • Caulk and Finish:

In the end, they caulked around the frame and trim to seal any gaps and prevent drafts.

This is how to change door frame.
