Hi Buddy. At first, finding a leak while taking a shower might not seem like an enormous concern, but you should look into it. And compared to other shower issues, this one is easy to fix. Last month, I also faced a similar issue, where I found a decrease in shower water pressure along with a leaky faucet. As I was unaware of how to replace a shower valve cartridge, I hired a plumber to fix it. I saw the steps he followed so, sharing it below for you.

How to Change a Shower Valve Cartridge?

Here is the process the plumber I hired followed to replace my shower valve cartridge.

  • He disconnected the shower's water supply.

  • Using a flathead screwdriver, he next took off the shower valve's handle and trim plate to expose the cartridge.

  • Then he used a wrench to release the old cartridge from the valve.

  • After that, he noted the position of the old cartridge and checked it for damage.

  • He installed the new shower cartridge after cleaning the valve body and its surroundings.

  • Finally, he reinstalled the trim plate and handle and started on the water supply again.

By following these steps on how to replace shower cartridge, you can keep your shower running smoothly. I hope this helps you out.

How to Repair a Leaking Mixer Tap?

I saw you asking about the process for shower valve replacement, so let me help you with the same process. To replace the cartridge, you’ll have to start by turning off the water supply and removing the shower valve cartridge using a hex wrench.

What is the Method for Shower Cartridge Replacement?

  1. Start by turning off the water supply and turn on the valve until the water stops running. Now, to remove the handle, take a hex wrench and remove the screws holding the escutcheon and slide out the escutcheon.

  2. If you find a chrome sleeve, you need to either pull it out or unscrew it. Take a small screwdriver to take out the retaining clip that keeps the cartridge in place.

  3. A few of the cartridges can be taken out using pliers. However, a lot of different kinds need a special cartridge-pulling wrench made for the particular tap brand.

  4. Now, if you find any mineral deposits on the cartridge, soak it in vinegar to clean it. If you find the cartridge in its original shape, change the O-rings and any other damaged parts if needed. Before you reinstall the O-rings, rub them with a thin coat of silicone grease.

  5. At last, place the new or repaired cartridge into the tap body. Slide in the retaining clip and change the handle and escutcheon.

This is the process of changing shower cartridges. I hope you find this helpful.
