I will tell you how to replace a brick on a house. The process involves multiple steps like removing the damaged brick, mixing and applying the mortar and so on. I will explain each of these steps one by one so that it becomes quite simple for you to understand the method. Let me get started, then.

How to Replace Brick on House?

Here is how you can replace a brick from your house wall.

  1. First, wear leather gloves and safety goggles for protection. Now, take a mason’s chisel and a hammer. Break the damaged brick with the help of these two. Go slow and steady, breaking the brick into smaller pieces. In case you are removing several bricks, start from the top and then come down, breaking each brick. You should also be careful that you do not cause damage to any other brick. Once you are done, clean the area by rinsing it with water, with the four sides of the opening counted as well.

  2. Now, you’ll mix the mortar according to the guidelines given by the manufacturer. If you want to match the colour of the current mortar, experimentation would be needed to find the right colour for the dried mortar.

  3. Take the pointing trowel and use it to apply 1 inch of mortar on the bottom and each side of the current opening. Also, take the brick which will be placed on the wall and moisten it immediately. Then, apply mortar over this brick on the sides and the top.

  4. It is time for you to place the brick in the opening. Use the butt end of the pointing trowel to push in the brick and match it in line with the already placed bricks on the wall.

  5. You can choose to add a bit more mortar if you feel that the brick joints are not full to the face. You can add the mortar using the pointing tool. Take out the excess mortar with the help of the side of the trowel.

  6. Tool the mortar joints using a jointer tool. You do this to match the joints of the new brick with the other brick’s joints.

  7. After you see that the mortar is dry, take a wire brush and gently brush away the remaining mortar from the face area of the brick. Do not disturb the tool joints here.

  8. The last step for replacement bricks for the house, you will have to spray the new brick with water. Keep the area moist for three days, and use a plastic sheet to cover it.

This is how to replace a brick on a house. I hope this helps.
