• Lining Paper -  If you hang lining paper, it is the equivalent of hanging wallpaper which will get you a smooth surface with which you can paint. Lining paper can cover any cracks. You can paint directly over the lining paper. Beware of joints on the lining paper.

• Wall Panelling - The wall panelling will hide any cracks or other irregularities. The Panelling comes in many sizes and shapes. You could also paint on some of the wall panelling immediately after installing them.

• Getting the walls repainted -  If the walls are chipping away or have a lot of holes and cracks, It is better to get the walls repainted. While repainting you can use a silk finish emulsion for best results.

• Sanding

The first method you can adopt is to sand the walls using sandpaper. If you’re looking to smoothen out your walls without disturbing the plaster, this is the way to go. However, ensure that the paint is applied professionally by incorporating multiple coats. Also, this would work if you want to remove a few blemishes.

• Joint Compound

You can use a joint compound which is easily available on Amazon if you don’t find it offline.  I’m stating a simple method for your convenience. 

• Start by applying a thin layer of the product on your wall.

• With a putty knife, spread it on the wall.

• Let the wall dry completely before you begin to sand.

• Now, sand the wall with the help of sandpaper

You can redo this process till you find the desired output.

• Filler

If your walls have small holes and there’s nothing big to be hidden, go for a fine filler. It works greatly in overcoming the tiniest of imperfections. After you have used the filler, wait for it to dry out. Then, sand off the surface with sandpaper.
