This pandemic has made me think of things I didn’t even knew I needed before. The work from home scenario made me think about how to make a door soundproof. I faced problems conducting virtual meetings with all sorts of noises that came from behind. I talked to my husband about the same and he helped me figure it out. I am sharing with you what I did you can see if this works for you.

How to soundproof a door?

To soundproof a door, you can do a few things. You can seal your door with rubber weatherstripping. You can also install an MLV sound barrier.

Let us take a look at how you can do either of the two.

Rubber weatherstripping

Buy rubber weatherstripping with adhesive taping and a putty knife. Measure the width of the door and gap between door frames. Now cut the rubber weatherstripping in that width and length. Stick the rubber weatherstripping on the door frame by exposing the adhesive back. Before pasting it, ensure that the frame is free of dust and gunk.

MLV sound barrier

You can install a mass loaded vinyl mat on your door. It is usually used underneath carpet as a vibration cushion but it will do the job hanging on the back of the door.

These are two ways I am aware of for how to make a door soundproof.
