I love fast food and street food. Being from Delhi, I have tasted and experienced different food options and cuisines and I always wanted to own a food joint of my own. So I started searching how to start a small fast food business in India. I knew it would be rewarding but there were many challenges to overcome as well. Let us look at the important aspects you need to take care of.

How to start a fast food business?

To open a fast food business, you will have to consider the following aspects:

Location:

Decide on what is the ideal location for opening a restaurant. You will have to look at the footfall in the market area and competition as well. Once you decide on location, buy or rent a place which is equipped to at least transform into a small restaurant.

: To open a small fast food business in India you will be required to apply for a food license with FSSAI. You’ll also need to get an Eating House License by the Police Commissioner of the area and get a Shop and Establishment License within the first 30 days of its opening. You will also require two other main permits- Fire Safety Clearance and Certificate of Environmental Clearance.

Kitchen Equipment:

Once you have acquired the license, next you will have to get the kitchen equipment. Of course if you are running a small fast food restaurant business then you will have to buy good equipment including microwaves, refrigerators, tandoors, utensils, gas pipelines, etc.

Labour:

You will need some helping hands in your restaurant, don’t you? So plan on that. I hired 2 chefs, 3 employees who would wait on tables and do the other jobs. I appointed myself as the manager and cashier :P

Cost: All of this is impossible without money. So make wise financial decisions. You will have to consider cost for rental (around 40k or 50k), kitchen equipment (2.5 lakhs to 3 lakhs), Licensing (a few thousands), labour (approximately Rs. 1 lakh) and miscellaneous expenses which could popu up at any time.

I hope you now understand how to start a small fast food business in India.
