How to stop water leakage from ceiling?

  • Find The Source

You need to understand where the leakage has occurred. This will save both your time and money. Check your roof and see if the rainwater is getting accumulated. Also, check if the gutters are clogged or leaked.

  1. Clear the area

Mop the wet area under the leak and place pails to collect the water. Do move your furniture and appliances away from the leakages to prevent any damage. If you are unable to move the furniture you can apply plastic to keep them dry.

  • Apply roofing tar

You can take off the tiles to check the internal leakages in the roof or bathroom floor. For this roofing tar patches are perfect. Roofing tar works well with pieces of shingle or plywood.

  • Use PE plastic

If you cannot find the leaks the best option would be to use polyethene (PE) plastic which can limit the amount of space affected by leaks.

  • Use Tarpaulins

You can use multiple tarps to cover a leakage in the roof. It is perfect if your ceiling is affected by stormwater. It’s always better to anchor the tarp with heavy concrete blocks as well as extend it over the ridge to keep the tarp in place. You can also use nails for mild or heavy storms.

  • Seal Joints

Rainwater can come through joints or chalk and aluminium in areas where surfaces join. Use a sealant for small leaks and use new flashing to fix the larger cracks in the roof.

These are a few ways on how to stop a ceiling leak. Hope you find this informative.
