Wondering

how to stop cheque payment in SBI.

Stopping a cheque payment in State Bank of India (SBI) involves a few straightforward steps that can be completed online or offline. Here’s a step-by-step guide to stopping cheque payment in SBI:

How to Stop Cheque Payment in SBI Online Method?

  • Visit the

    SBI online banking portal

and log in using your credentials.

  • Go to the "Requests" or "e-Services" tab. Select "Stop Cheque" or "Stop Cheque Payment" from the menu options.

  • Enter the cheque number you want to stop. If stopping multiple cheques, enter the range of cheque numbers. Mention the reason for stopping the cheque.

  • Review the details entered and confirm the stop payment request. A reference number or confirmation message will be provided for future reference.

Offline Method:

  • Go to your nearest SBI branch where you hold your account.

  • Request the “Stop Cheque Payment” form from the bank representative.

  • Fill in the necessary details, such as your account number, cheque number(s), and reason for stopping the cheque. Submit the completed form to the bank representative.

  • The bank may require your signature to verify the request. The bank will process your request, and you may receive a confirmation either instantly or within a few hours.

Points to Note:

  • SBI may levy a fee for stopping a cheque payment. Check the bank’s schedule of charges for the exact fee. Ensure the stop payment request is made before the cheque is presented for payment. If the cheque has already been cleared, stopping it will not be possible.

  • Keep a record of the stop payment confirmation, as it might be required for any future disputes.

  • Stopping a cheque payment is a critical action that helps prevent unauthorised or erroneous transactions. Whether done online or offline, the process is designed to be user-friendly and efficient, ensuring your financial security.
