Noisy water pipes are really annoying and it somehow makes you stay alert every single second. I was quite fed up with the issue, hence hired a plumber and asked him about how to stop noisy water pipes in your house. It took him just a few minutes to fix it and since then everything seems normal. He explained that noisy pipes are usually the result of loose pipes and can be fixed in minutes.

How to Stop Noisy Water Pipes?

It is easy to fix noisy water pipes. Here is the process that I learned from the plumber:

  • Start by shutting off the main water supply

  • Make sure to drain all the water from the faucets

  • Look for loose pipes and secure them with pipe clamps so that they do not make the sound anymore

  • Add water hammer arrestors to stop the noise when the water flow is stopped

  • Lastly, make sure that the water pressure isn’t too high or it will again cause a noisy pipe and adjust if needed

If the problem persists, I will suggest you hire a professional and solve the issue. I hope this has given you some idea on how to stop noisy water pipes in your house and the probable cause for it.

As soon as I read your question, I was reminded of an incident that happened to me years back when I was in college. So, I was living away from home and this PG that I shared with 2 other girls happened to be infamous. There were many stories doing the rounds that the flat was haunted and people heard weird noises from that place. I didn’t believe it until I started experiencing it myself. But I kept my rationality intact and tried figuring out where those noises come from. After careful observation of approximately 2 months, we figured out that it was the water pipes. It was hilarious at first but we also needed to know how to stop my water pipes banging so loudly. We went over it and figured out what we needed to do.

How to stop noisy water pipes in your house?

Just like what we did, you need to figure out where those noises are coming from. There could be multiple reasons. Some of them are:

  • The water pipes are loose and they sway whenever someone accesses the water from taps

  • Your washers on the taps have worn out hence the awful noises

  • The water starts hammering after you turn off the tap or

  • There is a fault in the main vault where you shut off the water access

After figuring out the reason, you should get to a solution on how to fix noisy pipes water pressure.

The best advice I have for you is to get the valve changed and call an experienced plumber to look at the reasons and ask him to fix it up for you.

Plumbing is a hard job and doing it yourself without any experience may open up a whole avenue of problems, so please be careful.
