In case the slope isn’t correctly constructed, water gets accumulated in some space that causes damages to the flooring which prompt water leakage issues.
Drainage Point on TerraceLook for drainage holes for water to flow out easily. Drainage ought to be integrated into your home’s existing downpipes to prevent the changes of water damage, or a downpipe fitted to allow water evacuation.
Use Elastomeric CoatingIn case your terrace isn't waterproofed properly, it leads to damp patches on the ceiling. In some cases, water seeps down and causes leakages. Using a waterproofing membrane is an ideal way to waterproof a flat terrace. It’s a thin layer of waterproof material that is continuous and does not provide any way for water to enter the structure.
Don’t Ignore CracksYou should immediately repair cracks on exterior walls or terraces. One of the best products to fill small cracks on exterior roofs and walls is Leak Seal Spray. In case, there are deep cracks on exterior walls, fill them with waterproofing Cement.

There are several ways to fix water leakage but it’s important to know the reason before you hop into the solution. The professional plumber who fixed the problem shared some tips to recognise water leakage and fix it in the future.
-
Identify the Problem: It might be a damaged pipeline creating the problem, or it could be a damaged corner. It’s essential to get a complete checkup to understand the reason for the leakage.
-
Fix the Cracks: There could be cracks on your roof that are causing the leakage. This can damage the metal structure/roof steel. You can use any terrace crack fillers to fill the gaps/holes on your roof. If you find any visible cracks on the walls of your terrace, get a professional to fill the cracks so that the water doesn’t enter your structure.
-
Test for Leakage: After you apply the crack filler, fill the terrace with water and wait for some time. If there are still signs of leakage or dampness inside, then you need to waterproof the entire slab of your terrace.
-
Waterproof Coating: For additional protection, it is recommended that you apply waterproofing coating on the existing roof to avoid water leakage.

Your terrace is your haven, but if it's not waterproof, you could end up in a major mess. Well, I had a water leak on my terrace a month ago and my neighbor suggested that the best solution for water leakage from roof in India is sealing the gaps using waterproof sealant or caulk. Scroll down to get more tips for stopping the leakage from your roof.
How to Repair Terrace Leakage?
My neighbour informed me to follow the below tips to repair the leakage from my terrace:
Look closely at the terrace to find any spots where water might be leaking through. Water leaks usually occur in the spaces around drainage pipes, and the corner of the terrace.
To stop water from getting inside after the leak's source has been located, these places must be sealed with silicone caulk or waterproof sealant.
Additionally, he advised you to check the terrace for any signs of water stabbing. The terrace's slope should be appropriately directed outward. If the slope is not built properly, water will collect in some places, damaging the flooring and increasing the risk of leaks.
To stop water from collecting and causing more damage, he also advised making sure the terrace had adequate drainage.
Moreover, if you want to know the alternate terrace leakage solutions in India, you can read the comment provided by Rahim above.
If a terrace leak is ignored, it can seriously harm the building's structure. You must take immediate action to resolve this problem and avoid expensive repairs.
I hope you get an idea of how to fix terrace leakage.

How to protect terrace from water leakage?
To stop water leakage from your terrace, you will need to:
Begin by inspecting your terrace for signs of leakage. Look for cracks, holes, or damaged areas where water may be seeping in.
Remove any dirt, leaves, or debris from the terrace surface and drains to ensure proper water flow.
Seal any visible cracks or gaps using waterproof sealant or caulk. Make sure to fill them completely and smooth the surface.
Replace or repair damaged tiles or roofing material. Ensure a tight fit and proper sealing to prevent water from entering.
Examine the flashing around roof edges, vents, and chimneys. Repair or replace any damaged flashing to prevent water intrusion.
Apply a waterproofing coating or membrane over the entire terrace surface. This will create a barrier to keep water out.
Ensure that your terrace has a slight slope away from the building to encourage water runoff.
Periodically check and maintain your terrace to catch any issues early and prevent leaks.
Ensure that your terrace has proper drainage channels and gutters to divert rainwater away from the structure.
If you're still unsure or the problem persists, hire a professional roofer or contractor for a thorough inspection and repairs. I am sure these steps will be helpful.

Although it might be a frustrating problem, water leakage from a terrace can be easily fixed with the appropriate methods. Here is a how-to on preventing water leaks from a terrace:
Locate the water leak's exact location and root cause. Cracks, cracked tiles, seams with gaps, and insufficient waterproofing are examples of common sources.
Clear the terrace's surface completely of any trash and loose objects. Make sure the area is dry.
Use an appropriate epoxy compound or waterproof sealer to fill in gaps or fractures. Buff the surface to get a uniform finish.
If cracked tiles are to blame for the leak, gently remove them and install new ones. Make sure that the waterproofing and adhesion are correct.
This is the best solution for terrace leakage. To waterproof the terrace, cover the entire surface with a premium waterproofing membrane or coating. For correct application and cure duration, according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Check for leaks at joints, connections, and gaps, then seal them. To ensure a watertight seal, use a suitable waterproof sealer or caulking.
Make sure the terrace surface has the right slope and drainage. In order to move water away from the terrace, install drain pipes or channels.
Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to address any potential problems as soon as they arise. To avoid clogging and water buildup, keep the terrace clear of debris.

How to stop terrace leakage? Bituminous waterproofing:
Layers of bitumen (a type of asphalt) is applied to the surface of the terrace. It provides excellent waterproofing properties and can withstand extreme temperatures.
Polyurethane coating:
This is a popular method, as the coating gives a durable and long-lasting solution. The polyurethane coating is applied as a liquid membrane, which creates a seamless, waterproof barrier over the surface of the terrace. It is also UV-resistant and can withstand harsh weather conditions.
Cementitious waterproofing:
This method involves applying a layer of cement-based material to the surface. It may not be the best option for areas with heavy rainfall or extreme weather conditions.
Acrylic waterproofing:
This is a more flexible and versatile option for old terrace waterproofing, as it can be applied to a variety of surfaces, including concrete, metal, and wood.
Brick Bat Coba
: This is a traditional method where a layer of broken bricks is laid on the surface, followed by a layer of cement mortar and waterproofing compound. If you don't want to spend extra money on the waterproofing, this option is the best waterproofing method for old terrace

So, there were many times I had water leakage on my terrace. I fixed those leakages using brickbat Coba, lime, or ‘Mud Phuska' technique. But every year I would face the same issue. When I hired a plumber to fix it, he told me the reason why these tips don't work. The terrace waterproofing ideas did not work because:
Heavy loading on the slab leads to slab leakage
Cracks on the surface, if the brick bat is applied
Expertise levels of application required for lime terracing/mud phuska is not a good procedure to follow as it leads to insulation.
Leads to insulation rather than a leak proof or a water-tight system.
Ageing leads to cracks which in turn leads to leakages.
My plumber provided an alternative solution to terrace leakage repair. Let me share the process to water proofing for terrace.
My plumber applied Dr Fixit Newcoat, which is a heavy-duty, microfiber-reinforced-based flexible terrace waterproof coating. It has a three-layer system with coats of different colours. In the monsoon, you need to make sure that all the drains are cleaned. Make a proper slope of 1:100 and mix Dr Fixit Pidicrete URP with mortar. Then apply Dr Fixit Newcoat Ezee to waterproof your terrace. After applying Dr Fixit, your terrace won't get any leakages for a long time. It is a miraculous product!
I hope you liked what I have mentioned about terrace waterproofing.
