Pressure testing is essential when you’re installing a plumbing system, because this way you will not get any leaks in the future. Before we moved to our new flat, we wanted to inspect our drainage and water pipes, so we called a plumber. He inspected everything, right from the vents, drains, and water lines. He also checked the pressure of the pipe. This is when we understood how to test PVC pipe for leaks.
How to Pressure Test your Pipe to Inspect Leaks?
The plumber performed a pressure test using water, and here are some steps that I observed him follow.
He started by plugging the main drain where it’s exiting the house. He used a plug that inserts into the end of the drain. Then, he turned on the knob of the plug to expand the flange and make an airtight seal.
Then, he plugged each of the drain stub-outs into the kitchen, bathrooms, and laundry room.
Once the stub-outs and drains were sealed, he filled the system with water using a garden hose. He mentioned it can also be done through the washing machine drain.
This is how he tested the pipes for potential leaks. Luckily, we did not find any leaks in the system. But when you notice any leaks, you must drain the system and fix the problem.
I hope you got an idea on how to test PVC pipes for leaks.
