Hi Tejas. My partner is a big-time artist. She loves texture painting and we decided to do the same on one of the walls in our living room. So, I will be able to share how to texture a wall with a sprayer with you. We used a mixture of joint compound and water and added it to the sprayer’s hopper. But before we began with the actual work, cleaning was done to prepare the surface. Let me describe the steps below.
How to Texture Walls with Sprayer?
Here is the method you can follow:
Start by cleaning the walls with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Use a microfibre cloth to apply the solution. Let the walls dry completely.
Next, you need to mix joint compound and water as per the manufacturer’s guidelines.
Double-check the compound and sprayer’s instructions, and add more water as necessary.
Cover the floors, walls and furniture you don’t want textured using drop cloths.
Add the compound to the texture sprayer’s hopper.
Adjust the nozzle and airflow for the texture you’d like.
On increasing the airflow, the amount of compound sprayed onto the wall will decrease and vice versa.
Use slow and even motions to spray the compound onto the wall.
Finish one wall at a time so you can take breaks and maintain uniformity in the texture.
Let the compound dry for a minimum of 1 day before painting.
That is all about the process. I believe you are now aware of the method.

Hi friend. A few months ago, I decided to refresh the look of my living room walls by adding some texture using a sprayer to make the job easier. Hence, I researched how to texture a wall with a sprayer. I found that it can be done by preparing the space, cleaning the walls, putting the texture compound in the hopper sprayer and so on. I have shared the detailed steps below.
How to Texture Walls with Sprayer?
If you’re thinking of doing the same, below are the steps you can follow:
First, you need to prepped the space by clearing the room and covering the floors and furniture with plastic sheets
Then, clean the walls with a mild soap solution to ensure the texture would stick properly.
Next, you must mix up my texture compound according to the instructions. If you are using a hopper sprayer, fill it with the mix and adjust the nozzle to control the airflow.
You then practice on a piece of cardboard first. When you feel confident, start spraying from the top of the wall, moving in slow, even motions.
After about 15 minutes, use a trowel to gently press down and flatten the texture for that nice knockdown effect.
Once you finish all the walls, let everything dry for 24 hours before painting.
I understood that it's important to take it slow and make sure to practice spraying technique. Hence, to save my time, I hired a NoBroker painter for texturing my wall. The result was fantastic.
I hope you found this steps helpful.
