4. Alternatively, you can use lemon juice mixed with warm water in equal parts. You have to apply the solution over the region in the same way and leave it overnight. Finish by rinsing with clean water.

In simple words, when crystalline salt deposits appear on any porous building surface, it is known as efflorescence. It occurs when high-quality construction materials have not been used

Before I share with you the process of removing efflorescence from basement walls. Let me share how it occurs. Salt gets deposited in the walls during rain or the use of salt water. Sulfates, magnesium, sodium, calcium, calcium carbonate, or other salts get dissolved. The water and salt evaporate and appear on the surface in the form of sulfation of pyrites. 

Efflorescence on concrete block walls is one type, it can occur on stucco, brick, block, and wood as well. For the most part, it looks like white patches It is also known as Kallar and Shora in many cultures.

How to remove efflorescence from concrete block walls?

• You can use water pressure from a widest-angle tip pressure washer, to dislodge any salt particles from the surface.

• You can also use an acid-based treatment (PROSOCO’s Sure Klean Light Duty Concrete Cleaner, and Sure Klean Vana Trol ) to wash the wall. This will dissolve all the remaining salt.

• With a stiff-bristled brush, brush the wall. 

• Then, wet a sponge and wipe with a solution of 5% solution of white vinegar and water.

• Wipe the surface area of the wall with a damp cloth.
