Visit the official Income Tax e-Filing website at

https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in/

and log in with your user ID and password.

Choose the relevant ITR form for the assessment year for which you want to file your return.

Enter your all necessary personal and income details as required in the ITR form.

Go to the 'Taxes Paid and Verification' section.

Update your details of the challan. Provide your challan number, date of payment, amount of tax paid and bank name through which payment was made.

Ensure to review your entire ITR form for accuracy and completeness.

Generate an XML file of your ITR and upload it on e-Filing portal.

Once your ITR is successfully e-verified, you will receive an acknowledgment from the Income Tax Department.

How to enter Challan 280 details in ITR?

  • You must go to the official website in order to submit the Challan 280 in ITR online.

  • There you have to choose "Challan No./ITNS 280" once you are on the webpage and then proceed to enter all the necessary information.

  • It must be noted that the option to choose on the form is (0020) Income Tax on Companies if the taxpayer is a company. And (0021) Other Than Companies if the taxpayer is any person other than a business, such as a partnership or an individual.

  • You must provide the proper Permanent Account Number (PAN) in the form in order for the tax to be paid under the proper name, 

  • The year after the fiscal year for which the tax is being paid is the assessment year. For instance, if you're paying taxes for the 2018–2019 fiscal year, the assessment year you must enter on the form is 2019–2020.

  • You must click the "continue" link after filling out the form completely. The data you have supplied will be displayed on a confirmation page, which you should check again for accuracy.

  • You should choose "Submit to Bank" if the information supplied is accurate. 

  • After successfully logging in, you will be prompted to enter the amount of tax you are paying.

  • You will then be requested to log into your net-banking account.

  • The bank will complete the payment once you enter and confirm the tax amount to be paid.

  • Once this is finished, you can submit the ITNS 280 challan and pay their income tax.
