What is JSON?

The income tax department has made changes to its system. Now, the ITR JSON file upload system will be used. JSON is a file format that will increase the ease of uploading documents online. To avail of the service you will need to be a registered user on the e-Filing portal and have downloaded an offline utility for ITR-1 to ITR-4, or ITR-5 to ITR-7.

Here is the process to upload json in income tax portal :

  • You will need to open the income tax portal with the link

    https://eportal.incometax.gov.in/iec/foservices/#/login

  • Log in with your user ID and password.

  • Click on the e-file button and choose the ‘Income Tax Returns’ options.

  • Click on the ‘File Income Tax Return’

  • Choose the current AY and Mode of Filing

  • In case you were in the middle of filling out the form, you will see that all the information stored in the pre-filled JSON files downloaded will be present on the screen.

  • Mention all the details

  • Click on the upload button and select the JSON file.

  • This is how to upload a JSON file.
