While I hired a painter to work on a painting project for my home, I realised that white cement isn't just useful for covering cracks, it can be an excellent base coat for outdoor surfaces too. This base layer not only prepares the wall but also increases the durability of the topcoat, especially for exterior walls exposed to harsh weather. So, I asked him to use the white cement for my exterior wall also. I saw the steps he performed, so I am sharing how to apply white cement on wall below for your reference.

How to Use White Cement as Paint on Wall?

The painter I hired informed me that using white cement as a base gives the paint a stronger hold. It makes the paint more durable, particularly in places where moisture can affect regular paint. This is what he did and you should also try doing:

  • Cleaning the Wall: First, he made sure the wall was clean by removing dust, dirt, or any old paint that was peeling off.

  • Applying Cement and Water: Mix white cement with water in a slightly thicker ratio—approximately 1.5:1 (water to white cement) for better adhesion to rough outdoor surfaces.

  • Applying the Mixture: He only needed one coat for the outdoor walls, though it took a bit longer to dry.

  • Protecting the Wall: Once applied, the white cement created a layer that protected the wall from rain and harsh weather, ensuring the paint wouldn’t wear off easily.

  • Painting the Final Coat: After letting the base coat dry for a full day, he painted over it. The paint looked brighter and stayed intact much longer, even in the sun and rain.

I hope this helps you get an idea of how to use white cement for painting.

When I started with the painting project at my home, I ensured the application of white cement before painting. As starting with a much better finish, the white cement for wall painting hides hairline cracks with a long-lasting, matte finish. The effect on the paints is the second advantage; the white surface shields the paint from wall moisture and makes it stand out.

How to Use White Cement for Painting?

During the painting job at my home, I realised that applying white cement is a fairly simple process. "Wash" or "Whitewash" is another term for the white cement application process. Unlike grey cement, white cement only requires water.

  • The house painter informed me that white cement and water must be mixed in a standard white cement mixture of 2:1 water to white cement.

  • For the walls to be evenly covered, two coats of this mixture are usually required. For the perfect finish, the painter opted for a step further and added a third layer.

  • However, the painters also ensured to clean the wall’s surface by brushing, scrubbing, and scraping to get a good finish before applying the white cement.

These are the steps that are usually followed if you wonder, how to use white cement as paint. Painting over whitewashed walls will allow the paint to show off the colour better, so applying white cement first will help ensure a nice finish.
