Hi, I wanted to give our bedroom wall a fresh and interesting look. After looking for various methods, I discovered a DIY wallpaper installation process. Luckily, I found a beautiful floral wallpaper and we were able to place it together on the wall, which had a window. So, I can share how to wallpaper a wall with a window. Before you start, the wall must be prepared for the wallpaper installation. I’ll tell you the complete steps.
How to Wall Paper Around a Window?
The first step is to refine your wall. Fill holes, gaps and cracks using filler or wall putty with a putty knife. The surface needs to be flat for the best outcome.
You can then sand the wall with appropriate grit sandpaper. You can seek an expert’s help to get the right sandpaper.
Now, start the installation at the right side of the window and hang the first drop of wallpaper, which begins at the top of the wall, letting the wallpaper’s length fall in the window’s front.
Cut the wallpaper horizontally at the top and bottom of the recess such that you end with a flap that can be folded inwards.
Brush it using wallpaper paste and cut the paper where it comes in contact with the window frame.
If your window doesn’t have a recess, you can simply cut the excess flap instead of folding it in.
Hang the next drop of wallpaper beside the first one, above your window. See that the pattern aligns when you do so. Fold the overhanging wallpaper into the top portion of the recess and brush it in with the wallpaper paste. Again, trim the portion that meets the window.
Use an offcut with a 10 to 15-cm overlap and paste it over the paper above the recess. Align the wallpaper pattern carefully. Fold the offcut into the recess to fill the gap in the recess.
To ensure the finish is neat regarding how to wallpaper a window wall, take your scissors and slice hori across the middle of the overlapping paper. Peel at the top of the overlapping paper and underneath the original one. This will give you a single paper layer without any bumps.
On the basis of the window’s width in your room, you’ll have to repeat the fourth step of hanging the next drop of wallpaper several times till you come to the left-hand side.
After finishing up above the window and in the recess of the window, apply wallpaper underneath the window down to the end of the wall.
Keep going with wallpapering and align every new drop with the adjacent one.
This is how to wallpaper a wall with a window. I hope it helps.
