How to wallpaper floors ?

Hello Farhan, I am here to tell you how to wallpaper floor. With the help of a friend, I installed wallpaper on my floor a week ago. So, here is the process.

How to Wallpaper a Floor?

1. First, make sure that the floor is flat and smooth. Fill any rough and bumpy areas with either sand or wood filler, if required.

2. Clean the flooring well. I used the wallpaper with an adhesive backing, so I did not need adhesive. If you choose a standard one, use wallpaper glue to stick it on the floors In the next steps.

3. Measure the length of the wallpaper needed and cut out the portion. Peel the back of the wallpaper little by little and start lining it up with the edge of the flooring. 

4. Smoothen out the wallpaper with your other hand using a card. If air bubbles start forming, pull the paper up and smoothen it again.

5. After the wallpaper is in place, take a Xacto knife and scissors to get rid of the extra wallpaper. Look over the corners and edges and ensure they flatten out.

6. You can sand the flooring with 220 to 280 fine-grit sandpaper. Vacuum to remove any dust or dirt.

7. Seal the floor. Use a can of clear polyurethane and stir it well. Use a floor pad or a paintbrush and apply the polyurethane on the floor with long and even strokes. 

8. Let the floor dry for four hours before the next coat. Apply 3 coats for a proper seal.

9. Leave the floor for 2 days to cure before you bring furniture in.

Even an amateur can DIY the process. The wallpaper will give your floors a new life. Keep reading to know the process. 

• Measure the length and breadth of the floor and the wall

• Cut the Wallpaper in straight lines according to measurements taken in the previous step

• Align the pattern in the floor, I would recommend making sure all the seams overlap.  

• Paste the wallpaper strip with the help of a water basin

• You are supposed to lay the adhesive side down on the floor. 

• With each strip, press the seam with a seam roller.

• The next step on how to put wallpaper on floor is to let the floor dry for an entire night

• If you see any excess paper, you can trim it with a utility knife

You can get sheet vinyl, laminate, linoleum, caper, and polished concrete instead of room floor wallpaper.

I have noticed that the material of the wallpaper isn’t as durable as other flooring options. The wear and tear off each day will severely damage it. I would recommend putting a heavy-handed coat of polyurethane on the floor after the wallpaper application.

• While picking a design, you should make sure the pattern goes well with the colour of the wall. 

• You should pick a subtle design if the furniture in the room is bold. Eg, marble wallpaper goes well with blue/green sofa
