In my family, many people believe that Griha Pravesh (kumbh ceremony) and marriage cannot happen in the same Hindu year. So people are suggesting to do one thing before Diwali and one after it. I want to know the reason behind it. And what happens if both events happen after Diwali?

Hey there Utsav,

Practically speaking, there is no such rule or logical explanation which says that Griha Pravesh and Marriage ceremony cannot happen in the same Hindu year. But if your family follows such a tradition, there must be some past tradition and belief associated with it. As far as I know, people suggest doing one event before Diwali and one after Diwali because Diwali marks the celebration of a new year for Hindus. If both events happen after Diwali, both will again happen in the same year.

If you come to think about it financially, it is also good to have the two events with some time gap to save you from the rigorous financial burden of the events. So, you may as well do the Griha Pravesh before Diwali and the marriage ceremony post-Diwali.
