My cousin came to visit me last month after the construction of the new house. While giving him a tour of the house, I also mentioned to him that there is a basement. He asked me to take him there right away and after that told me about how to keep the basement according to Vastu.

Is Basement Good for House?

After listening to my cousin, I asked him if it was good to have a basement in the house or not. He said that a basement shouldn’t be kept but if the construction has already happened then the following points need to be followed.

  • The basement should be used for non-residential or casual purposes. It can also be used as a storeroom.

  • He also told me that heavy electrical and metallic items should not be kept in the basement at any cost.

  • My cousin said the basement should always be clean and tidy.

  • According to him, there should be an adequate cross-ventilation arrangement to ensure that sufficient sunlight and air are coming into the house.

  • He also asked me to keep light colour or shades of light colour should be used for the basement.

These are all the points that my cousin asked me to follow to keep the basement according to Vastu. Hope this helps.

What Is Cross Ventilation In Homes?

Hi Sana! I know basements are a valuable addition to many homes because they offer more space and storage possibilities. But, as a Vastu student, I can tell you that it is not good to have basement under the house according to Vastu. Read on to know the reasons.

Is Basement Good for House?

No. The construction of a basement can have a big impact on how energy flows through a house, according to Vastu Shastra. They often lack sunlight and fresh air, making them damp, which could result in an adverse effect. In addition, there's a strong possibility that you face difficulties with water seepage from the nearby soil, which could lead to even more complications.

If you still choose to build a basement, there are a few essential Vastu principles that you should keep in mind.
  • Construct your basement facing toward the north of the home.

  • Instead of establishing your basement throughout the entire house, build it in just one area.

  • Stay away from painting the walls of your basement in dark hues as this could create a depressing atmosphere.

  • The basement staircase must be strong. It will be more profitable to install the steps in the southwest corner rather than other direction.

However, it is best to avoid having basements because they are often believed to have a negative energy flow. As an alternative, you can go with crawl spaces or higher foundations. I hope you found this answer helpful.

Hi Buddy,

Are you a staunch believer of Vastu shastra, and are you concerned about the basement of your home? If so, then I can totally understand your concern about the basement Vastu. As I am also having a basement at my place and I was supremely concerned about the fact that it might hamper the entire Vastu principle of the house.

Bright colours can be painted on the basement walls helping create an optimistic environment. Get painting services through NoBroker Get Your basement a new and modern look while considering Vastu from NoBroker home interior service.

However, we have a family Vastu expert, whom we asked, ‘Is basement good as per Vastu?’ To this he answered that a basement is typically constructed for storage or parking. However, there are occasions when such a location is also used by the family to play indoor activities or spend quality time together, such as watching a movie together on a projector.

Basements are often unoccupied and should not be utilised for sleeping or dwelling. According to the Vastu expert, the Vastu for basement godown should not be used as a living or sleeping place.

If one does decide to build a basement, it is necessary to do so in accordance with Vastu principles. That is, if you create the basement as per Vastu, the negative effects will be negated, and the residents will not be affected.

Basement cleaning is mandatory to maintain balance among the Vastu elements. Get exciting home cleaning offers at NoBroker. Here are some suggestions for improving the Vastu of your basement in house:
  • It is advisable to engineer your basement towards the north, north-east, or east directions, as they are the most beneficial sides for the basement in house as per Vastu

  • There is a chance that some sunshine will enter the basement and light up the energy levels in this manner

  • Bright colours can also be used to paint the basement walls, which may help to emit positive vibes in this area

  • It is also advised that one-fourth of the basement be above ground to allow sufficient light to penetrate and brighten the space. This also helps to keep the area dry and warm, which helps to maintain the walls strong and undamaged

  • Placing all of the heavy items in the basement's south and west sections can be very beneficial. Similarly, keeping the South-West corner above ground will help to screen off the intense evening sun rays. Furthermore, planning the structure so that the South-West corner bears more weight might aid in the construction of a solid basement foundation

  • Because this location is below ground level, ensure that the basement's height is not impacted. For a more comfortable experience, this location should be at least nine feet tall

  • The basement's entire footprint should be in the shape of a square or rectangle to help convey harmony and serene sentiments

  • When the environment is messy, negativity enters the scene. Keep the basement area clean and tidy because the humidity levels may already be higher than normal (as this place is a little dark and damp). Failure to clean the basement on a regular basis may encourage the growth of fungus (mould)!

Construction of a basement in accordance with Vastu principles is critical, as it leads to the distribution of more hopeful energy throughout the house.

Here are some things to stay away from, while considering the Vastu for basement in house:
  • According to the Vastu expert, the basement should not be positioned in the south, south-east, or west directions since it is unlucky

  • Do not position heavy objects in the North or the East direction. Keep that gap open to allow light to enter and brighten the space, as well as for ventilation

  • The staircase leading to the basement should be sturdy and free of cracks

  • Avoid constructing the steps on the north-east side; instead, construct them on the south-west corner

  • Building a basement can be difficult at times, and because it is such a vital element of the house, you can visit our Vastu Experts for additional information

  • Avoid using dark colours to paint the walls because they can give off a negative vibe

The Vastu for Basement recommends that the basement be placed in a way that allows the family's members to live comfortably. It also benefits the family in generating more business, which leads to increased income and chances in life.

As a result, applying such knowledge and wisdom to the construction of a basement is both fruitful and necessary in order to reap the full benefits of Vaastu!

I hereby conclude my answer about the basement Vastu. I Hope this helps:)
