Gypsum is a sulfate material and is mainly composed of calcium sulfate. Gypsum is mined all around the world and most of it is found in the regions of Russia, Spain, Turkey, and the US. There are many uses of gypsum like it can be put in the fertilisers, in the textile industry it is widely used and a major part in Portland Cement, but the use of gypsum comes in the form of a Gypsum board.
A Gypsum board, often referred to as drywall in construction, is a board which is put in between the walls. Its main properties are that it is fire-resistant, termite-resistant, etc. But when it is put in between the walls, the question that arises is whether is gypsum board waterproof?
The answer is that, gypsum board is little/not resistant to water. Gypsum waterproof board or waterproof gypsum board ceiling does not really exist. If it exists, it is very little resistant to water.
A normal gypsum board absorbs a good amount of water when it is exposed to water. And when it absorbs a considerable amount of water, the gypsum board loses its strength and becomes worthless. It can’t be used anywhere.
