Before getting my exterior painted, I got in touch with a painter and asked him is putty required for exterior walls. The painter told me that it's not necessary to use putty on the exterior walls unless there are any small cracks or pores in the walls. I asked him to come by and check if my exterior walls need putty or not.

Can We Apply Putty on Exterior Wall?

The painter came by and checked the exterior walls of my house, and after that, he informed me that there were a few cracks present there. Here are the steps that he followed to apply putty on my exterior walls.

  • He started by removing all the loosely adhering materials, like dirt, dust, etc.

  • Next, he used a hose spray to moisten the wall before applying the putty.

  • After that, he mixed the putty with water to make a paste and then left it for a few minutes.

  • Following that, he started applying the putty very gently with a putty blade.

  • After applying the putty, he waited for 3 - 4 hours to apply the next coat.

This is what he told me when I asked him can we apply wall putty in exterior wall or not. I hope this helps.
