Hi, renting to a Section 8 tenant is not a good idea due to low rental income and more. This is a concept which is followed mainly outside India, in the USA. Being an NRI, I am aware of the problems you’ll face after renting out your property to a Section 8 tenant. I have shared all the reasons below.

Must Landlords Accept Section 8 Tenants?

Here are a few reasons why renting your property to a Section 8 tenant isn’t a good idea.

  1. The number one reason is the lower rental income. You will have to give your house on rent at a price equal to or lower than the one set by the HUD. In comparison to this, you’ll earn more rental income by giving your house to a non-Section 8 tenant.

  2. Another big downside is the difficulty of asking a Section 8 tenant to leave the property. The local housing society has some regulations which make it way more difficult to evict a Section 8 tenant in comparison to a normal tenant.

I hope this helps you know whether rent to Section 8 tenant is a good idea or not.
