Last month, I went out of town for a few days, and when I came back, I learned that my landlord had changed locks. I asked my landlord about it, and he told me that I needed to move my belongings tonight or else he wouldn’t open the door. I contacted an advocate friend of mine and informed him that my landlord has changed the locks what can I do. Check out what he informed me to do.

What to Do If Landlord Illegally Changed Locks?

My friend told me that it's illegal and a landlord cannot do that. If they do, then here are a few things that he suggested I do.

  • He told me to take pictures and document the situation.

  • My friend told me to contact the police if I feel unsafe or feel that it was done with malicious intent.

  • He also told me that if I am unable to resolve the situation on my own, then I should take legal action against the landlord. He asked me to hire a lawyer who specializes in property law.

And that is what to do if landlord changed your locks, my friend told me.

I told my friend that I didn’t know where to look for that type of lawyer. He suggested that I check the legal services provided by NoBroker. I checked the
