During a plot purchase, my husband made sure that the property size stated in the documents was correct. He knew how to calculate area of a plot and thus hired experts to take the measurements. Here is the basic formula to calculate the land area of a square plot- area = Length* breadth, or Length square.

What is the Plot Calculation Formula?

Let me guide you on how to measure plot size as per the plot shape that I learned from my husband.

For square-shaped plot:

 Area = length * breadth, or length square. For example, if one side of the square of land is 20, then the area would be 20 * 20, i.e., 400 feet.

Rectangular plot:

Area = length * breadth

So if the length is 40 and the breadth is 20, then

Area = 40*20, i.e., 800 feet

Triangular plot:

For a triangular-shaped plot, you will have to take a, b, and c as plot dimensions and then take s as half the triangular perimeter.

The general formula is, Area of triangular plot= √(s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c))

You can use these formulas based on your plot shape to derive the area of it.

Hey,

T

he calculation of plot area is important for government authorities as well as the owners of the land. The government needs this data as a part of land survey whereas the owners need to know this information to determine the exact land area they have and finally utilise it in the best way possible.

I use a simple formula to know the area of the plot. Since, the front is 33 feet, the back side is 42 feet, one side is 74 feet and 81 feet. You can use the formula to make the calculation.

Area of rectangular plot = Length x Breadth
