The EER rating of an air conditioner determines how much electricity does a AC use. AC with five stars uses less energy than one with three stars. A three-star air conditioner (1.5 ton) uses around 1.6 units of power per hour, while a five-star air conditioner (1.5 ton) uses about 1.5 units per hour.

How Much Unit of Electricity Consumed by AC Per Day?

A few crucial factors to take into account while determining how much unit of electricity consumed by AC, are listed below:

  • The AC's KW rating 

  • Total hours of operation for the AC each day

  • The overall cost of one electricity board unit (let's use Rs. 6 as the electricity cost per unit)

The following formula is used to get AC power consumption:

Units per month = kW of AC * Daily running hours * 30 or 31 (month)

For instance, a 1.5 kW air conditioner runs for eight hours every day.

Thus, the AC's monthly power usage will be 1.5 * 8 * 30 = 360 units.

Next, assuming that the cost of electricity is Rs. 6 per unit, we can calculate the monthly electricity bill by AC. Therefore, the monthly electricity bill will be

Monthly electricity bill for air conditioning= Units per month * Cost of one unit

= 360 * Rs 6. 

= Rs. 2160

There are numerous factors that will determine the overall power consumption of your AC. Here are some common factors that will help you understand it in detail.

  • Number of people: A room with 20-25 people will require multiple ACs, thereby increasing the usage, while a room with 2-5 people will need a single AC.

  • Size of the room: A larger room will need more electricity consumption by AC while a smaller room will consume less electricity to cool down. 

  • Temperature: If it's sunny weather, and the temperature is exceeding 35 degrees outside, then the AC temperature will decrease, which can affect the overall usage.
