According to me in India, the decision between paint and wallpaper is entirely based on personal taste. Paint is a common option since it is more affordable, more easily maintained, and more adaptable.

In India, the price of a standard roll of wallpaper can vary from Rs 3,000 to Rs 10,000. Wallpaper installation could cost between Rs 8 and Rs 15 per square foot. To paint a square foot of space, paint costs will range from Rs 12 to Rs 35. The labour costs are not included in this. So I decided to opt for painting as it was cost effective.

Paint Vs Wallpaper: Durability

A high-quality paint job can last up to five years. On the other hand, wallpaper can withstand similar conditions for up to fifteen years. Even though wallpaper is far more durable, I decided to paint because I thought maybe, in five or six years, I might want to change the colour of my room. In terms of wallpaper, even if I am bored of it, I would feel stuck with the same texture for fifteen or sixteen years.

Paint Vs Wallpaper: Preparation Time

When it comes to wallpaper, the preparation time is somewhat greater because, in addition to washing and smoothing the walls, you might also need to remove the old paint, particularly if it's latex.
