Hey, 

After reading your question. I was super intrigued, I did not know what is a satellite city and whether satellite cities existed in India. Thanks to my informative friends and Google I got to know the meaning and how these cities are a part of planned township. Keep reading to know what I learned online.

What are satellite cities ?

These are smaller cities that are located near bigger cities to relieve pressure of ‘large cities’. Satellite cities are independent of other cities yet they act in support of bigger cities. e.g. Gurgaon and Noida are satellite cities to New Delhi.

These cities are planned and created on an integrated township model. The main aim of satellite cities across the globe is to provide easy access to comfort, facilities, and infrastructure that is available in any metro city. This concept of city planning was previously unknown in India. 

 

 Here is a list of satellite cities in India : 

  • Faridabad, Noida are satellite cities to Delhi

  • Kalyanpur is satellite city to Kolkata

  • Navi-Mumbai and Pune are satellite cities to Mumbai 

  • Secunderabad is satellite city to Hyderabad

This is all from my end on what is a satellite city. I believe in the next fifty years, many satellite cities will emerge in India.
