Back in my hometown, we have a house with a beautiful garden. I have memories of playing there every summer during the holidays. That garden was my most favourite spot because it was well-maintained and gorgeous at all levels. The greenery has always had me. I didn’t know there was something called ornamental plants at that point but now I do. I have recently redecorated my balcony with new furniture and plants I will tell you 5 examples of ornamental plants which are close to my heart since childhood.

I

barely know anyone in my neighbourhood who doesn’t have a rose plant or rose garden at their place. Rose plant is among the first choices when it comes to beautifying your garden. I mean why not, the flower of rose plant is beautiful and romantic. Besides, it is easier to grow rose plant with just cuttings.

  Coleus:

Another one among the examples of ornamental plants is coleus.

I have a nephew who is studying botany and he suggested I should get a coleus plant for my balcony. He said it is one of the most non-fussy plants and blooms even in shades. I particularly like the colours of the leaves; red-maroonish and green. It adds a pop of colour among a lot of greenery.

Snake plant:

I don’t know who named these beauties, snake plant because as disgusted and scared I am by snakes, snake plants are right opposite of it. They are strikingly beautiful and require bare minimum maintenance. In fact, in winters if you water them once a month, they will survive quite easily even then. Can you imagine? These plants have long leaves and they look perfect indoors and outdoors.

Peace lily:

I have a peace lily plant at home for 5 years now and I have seen at least 3 seasons where white flowers have bloomed among green leaves. These leaves are sturdy and glossy. It was gifted to me by my brother and I cannot ever not have it on my list of ornamental plants.

Lavender:

Another one that adds to the colours in your balcony has got to be lavender. They grow in clusters and smell amazing. In fact, if you know how you can extract lavender oil or if you’re a chef/foodie, they are widely used for plating purposes. I like them growing in bunches in one corner of my balcony and just ahead of that plant I have my rocking chair. It’s a calming set up.

Yeah, so to answer your query: what are the 5 examples of ornamental plants, these are my choices. I hope you like them
