Hi, I am a civil engineer, and I came across your question. If you are trying to know about the different walls types, then I can help you. Knowing about the types of walls is important as they play an important role in providing structural support to the entire house. I have added a list below which lists the various types of walls and their benefits.

What are the Different Types of Interior Walls?

Types of Walls

Benefits

Loading Bearing Walls

These play a supportive role and provide support to the other structural members, such as slabs, beams, etc.

Non-Load Bearing Walls

These are partition walls needed to separate one room into two parts.

Shear Walls

Helps in resisting earthquakes loading, wind, and other natural calamity load on the building.

Retaining Walls

They hold the soil behind them at a specific location.

Fire Wall

They provide protection from fire accidents and keep places safe.

Core Walls

They handle the lateral forces exerted on the buildings by earthquakes, wind, etc.

Besides these, there are other types of walls as well, and you can read about them in the answers provided by Saarth and Pritam. I hope this answers your query about what are the different types of walls in houses.

How much does it Cost to Build a Brick Wall?

I learned about the different types of walls for houses during our 1st floor construction. The architect was suggesting us to opt for drywalls but I had no idea what it was. I believed there are concrete walls or brick walls only but no, there are other types of walls as well.

What are the Different Types of House Walls?

The different interior wall types I learned from our builder are:

Drywall Walls:

Standard in residential construction, drywall consists of gypsum panels mounted on studs, offering a smooth and paintable surface.

Plaster Walls:

This type of wall is traditional and durable. They involve applying a mixture of gypsum, lime, or cement over a mesh or wooden lath.

Brick Walls:

Brick walls are common in older buildings, brick walls provide structural support and a timeless aesthetic. They can be left exposed for an industrial look or covered with plaster or drywall.

Wood Paneling:

Wood paneling adds warmth and texture, wood paneling comes in various styles like shiplap or beadboard. It can be natural or painted to suit different design preferences.

Concrete Walls:

Industrial and modern, concrete walls are often left exposed for a minimalist look or can be covered with various finishes.

Glass Walls:

Emphasizing openness and natural light, glass walls are common in contemporary designs, providing a sense of space and connectivity.

I hope Jagadip you have got your answer on what are the different types of interior walls.

Hi there, lovers of architecture and interior design! Our living environments are defined by their walls, which provide structure, aesthetics, and stability. Let's examine the different types of walls that are utilized in construction; each has special qualities and purposes.

What are the Different Types of Walls in Houses?

  1. Walls that Support Loads: Load-bearing walls, the most common type of walls in construction, support the weight of the building and the floors above. They're usually composed of blocks, concrete, or bricks and are essential to preserving the structural integrity of the building.

  2. Dividend Walls: Although they partition interior spaces, these walls are weightless. Their ability to be constructed from a variety of materials, such as glass, lumber, or gypsum, allows for versatility in both design and room division.

  3. Vaulted Walls: Cavity walls are made of two parallel walls spaced apart by an air gap to insulate against noise and heat. Blockwork or insulating materials may be used for the inner layer, while concrete or bricks are usually used for the outside layer.

  4. Walls that Retain: Retaining walls are mostly used in landscaping to support soil and stop erosion. Usually constructed of stone, concrete, or wood, they are positioned carefully to withstand the lateral pressure of the soil.

  5. Brick walls: Since brick walls are long-lasting, load-bearing constructions frequently use them. Bricks of different kinds, like sand lime, clay, or concrete, can be utilized to create a variety of design aesthetics.
